The type of vehicle normally found inside factories, warehouses and various work locations where moving heavy materials from one location to another is required is called a forklift. The mast is the mechanism located on the front of the forklift which hydraulically lowers and lifts the load. The "cat" is the area which is protected where the forklift operator sits.
Forklifts can carry loads that weigh between one to five tons. Various models could be used to raise shipping containers and much heavier loads.
The tires of a forklift must be inspected and maintained frequently. The kinds of tires on various forklifts differ according to factors like ground surfaces, frequency of use and load weights. Every forklift driver should have access to replacement tires, a forklift jack and tire press.
Tire Maintenance Instructions
You should regularly inspect the tires. Watch for signs of wear and damage to the tires. If the wear on the tire exceeds 40 percent, it must be replaced.
When you buy tires, be certain you purchase the right kind - polyurethane, solid or pneumatic.
When the tire needs replacing, position the forklift jack under the tire and lift the forklift high enough that you can easily change the tires.
In order to remove the damaged tire, pull the tire from the rim using the tire press. Install the new tire and properly secure it. If you are changing more than one tire and you have only one jack, lower the forklift, and then reposition the jack at the next tire.
On-site tire repair could be performed by a repair company. If the tire is extremely big for both mobile and in-house tire presses, the tire that is damaged should be transported to a shop which has a stationary tire press.
