Skyjack Safety
A scissor lift is a particular piece of industrial machinery which is used for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," according to Skyjack. Anybody who is preparing to operate this particular kind of machine must familiarize themselves with the suggested safety and operational procedures recommended by the manufacturer to be able to stay safe prior to trying to operate this machinery. It can be devastating to the operator themselves and any bystanders leading to severe injuries if the safety measures are not followed.
Area
In the best scenario, scissor lifts perform at optimum levels on completely level ground. The area has to be checked and cleared of any loose debris prior to driving a scissor lift over a certain terrain. In order to lessen the possibility of the scissor lift tipping over and potentially causing the driver to fall from his seat. It is better to stay away from holes or steep grades while operating. Bystanders should also remain aware and avoid the operating scissor lift so as to make certain that they do not get run over.
Inspection
Before attempting to use a scissor lift, the user must carefully inspect all the important components of the machine. The operator can see if all the components are working properly before the task is initiated, a functional test is performed while the lift is retracted. It is better to complete a daily check on this equipment prior to starting the shift and some places even want an inspection to happen at the end of the shift as well. Various companies have different rules in place to maintain safety.
Part of the inspection has to be inspecting the tires. These components obviously add to the movability of the scissor lift and also provide the equipment with a solid foundation. A faulty or worn tire could blow and throw the operator from their place on top of scissor lift.
