Reach Truck
A reach truck is utilized to stock up supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck is available in quite a few types: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The simplest type is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide beneath the pallet and move it to the right storage location. The forks slide the pallet into position. This particular kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet in depth.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, which is similar to the stand-up, is usually used. This model consists of telescopic forks intended to position the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet should go into the same shelving section.
The additional advantage of straddle reaches is that they can both slide underneath the pallet and grasp the sides as well. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in multiple directions. This version is best in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Usually more than one type of reach truck is required within warehouses. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies utilize various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and could increase production while making the most of available storage space.
