A stock picker, also known as an order picker is a machinery that is somewhat like a forklift. It allows the operator to utilize forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking some objects, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Usually, order pickers are operated by electricity. These kind of equipment are mostly utilized in a warehouse environment. Usually they are used for transporting pallets and finishing particular tasks in the stocking and shelving department.
The operator of an order picker utilizes controls to control the unit from a platform setting that normally sits quite close to the ground. The operator could direct the equipment to go backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades could be lifted up to the required level which makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for instance, if the needed materials, are located on a shelf that the operator could not reach, then entire platform can be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is then lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then driven or directed to its next location. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, although, several businesses may have policies and procedures in place preventing such maneuvers in the name of safety. An order picker can also put pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers could be used to finish these specific jobs at several companies instead.
